Course Description
Summary
From Kandinskyʹs teaching of color and analytical drawing at the Bauhaus, through modernism and minimalism to the invented worlds of many contemporary artists, ideas about color continually push drawing to its limits. This course provides an opportunity for students to develop a set of interests and impulses connected to translating and intermingling the languages of color and drawing. Using a variety of media, including watercolor, gouache, colored pencils, and colored papers, students make drawings across a range from close observation to imagination. The goal is to understand the drawn world in color, a world that may be different for each individual student. Basic drawing skills are expected and are emphasized. Students complete assigned in and out of class work on a weekly basis. Readings, viewings and discussions, complement in class drawing sessions. A high level of self‐ motivation is expected.Prerequisites
Two 4 credit VA courses including one 4 credit drawing course. Interested students should send me an email stating reasons for wanting to take this particular class, what prerequesites they have taken and their current term at Bennington. Emails will be looked at in order of date received.
