Course Description

Summary

Building on foundational trauma knowledge, this course delves into advanced trauma treatment techniques such as EMDR, somatic therapies, and trauma-focused CBT. Students will explore the neurobiology of trauma, complex trauma, and developmental trauma. Case studies and role-plays will provide opportunities for students to practice advanced trauma interventions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Examine the neurobiological effects of trauma and its impact on clients’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, and the assessment and treatment of complex and developmental trauma in diverse populations, including children and marginalized communities.
  • Demonstrate competence in trauma-informed care principles and advanced trauma interventions through case studies and role-play scenarios.
  • Evaluate the impact of secondary trauma and vicarious trauma on counselors and develop strategies for self-care and professional well-being.
