Course Description

Summary

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct clinical assessments and develop accurate diagnoses. Topics include clinical interviewing, the use of standardized assessment tools, and the application of the current DSM (DSM-5-TR) criteria. Students will learn to integrate assessment data into comprehensive treatment plans that address both mental health and substance use issues. Students will explore the application of expressive arts interventions for the purposes of Assessment and Diagnosis.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate proficiency in conducting clinical assessments, using standardized assessment tools, current DSM criteria (DSM-5-TR ), and clinical interviewing techniques, while integrating expressive arts interventions to enhance client engagement and understanding.
  • Apply expressive arts techniques as part of the diagnostic process, using creative modalities to help clients express emotions, experiences, and symptoms that inform more accurate and holistic diagnoses.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans that incorporate both expressive arts insights and clinical assessment data, addressing mental health and substance use issues with a focus on individualized, creative, and culturally sensitive interventions.
